Piano Magic

Music on the Terrace

This event will be held at Government House Ballroom.

The Sydney International Piano Competition is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest, attracting many of the most talented early-career pianists from around the world.

The quality of playing is uniformly high and many past winners have progressed to major careers. After the superb recital by past winner Alexander Gadjiev, we are excited to present the 2023 competition winner, Jeonghwan Kim, in a solo recital in Government House Ballroom.

Jeonghwan, who celebrated his 23rd birthday during the competition, began playing piano at six years old before moving from Korea to Berlin, where he now lives. Since 2017, he has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler.

In his recital for Music on the Terrace, he will perform a magnificent program featuring Beethoven’s Sonata in E flat major Les Adieux (The Farewell) as well as Chopin’s Berceuse and music by Schumann and Prokofiev.
