WASO’S MAY CONCERT EVENTS RESCHEDULED TO 2021 AS THE COMPANY’S ACTIVITY SUSPENSION EXTENDS UNTIL JUNE

Thursday 9 April, 2020

In March we made the difficult decision to suspend all WASO concert performances at Perth Concert Hall for six weeks due to the developing situation surrounding the COVID‐19 outbreak. Based on the current advice we have now extended that suspension to 1 June 2020.

Here at WASO, we are as committed as ever to sharing extraordinary music, in a time where we all need it most. Our musicians and staff are creating and sharing new experiences online each week until we can all be together again at our home, Perth Concert Hall. You can stay in touch via our Facebook page and 'Let the Music Play On' .

Ticket holders for Birds of Tokyo in Concert and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in Concert will be contacted directly with the rescheduled performance details. For those who are able to attend the new performances, their tickets will be valid for the new shows and no further action is required. For those patrons who cannot exchange tickets but would like to support our mission to touch souls and enrich lives through music, please consider donating part or all of the value of your tickets back to WASO so that we can let the music play on.

“On behalf of WASO and Perth Concert Hall I would like to offer our thanks to Premier Mark McGowan for his strong leadership of the state’s response, and our deepest gratitude to Western Australia’s frontline health workers for their tireless efforts. We also want to recognise the hardship faced by the arts and entertainment sector and offer solidarity to musicians, artists, performers, staff and event promoters whose livelihood depends on a vibrant arts and cultural sector in Western Australia. This unprecedented situation requires a considered and cautious response and the health, safety and wellbeing of our patrons, employees and the community is our priority as we all do our
best to stop the spread. Our operations rely on the financial support and generosity of the community and we would like to thank the Federal and West Australian Governments, our corporate partners and our valued philanthropic supporters for their continuing support at this difficult time.”
- Mark Coughlan, Chief Executive Officer.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Stay well and stay safe.

MUSICA VIVA AUSTRALIA STATEMENT RE: CHO-LIANG & JON KIMURA PARKER, CHANTICLEER AND GOLDMUND QUARTET CANCELLATIONS

Wednesday 8 April, 2020

"I am very sorry to have to inform you that, because of continuing restrictions in place, we are cancelling concert performances until the end of August. This will include the International Concert Season tours of Cho-Liang Lin and Jon Kimura Parker, Chanticleer, and Goldmund Quartet, as well as a number of Morning Masters concerts and regional tours.

You will have an opportunity to receive a refund for your tickets, exchange them for a later performance or donate their value to Musica Viva. Many of you chose to donate when we cancelled our first concert tour, and I am most grateful.

The Musica Viva team is now scattered across sixty desks around the country. Working from our homes, my colleagues and I are preparing for future seasons, finalising the imminent launch of online classes for schools and continuing work with young artists in our FutureMakers program. In all of these activities, we are finding ways to employ musicians who, as always, are central to our work and whose livelihoods have been so badly affected by COVID19.

If you’d like to stay in touch with us during these strange times, sign up to Know The Score here or follow us on Facebook where we’ll be posting regular news and music.

Musica Viva was founded by passionate, resilient musicians who overcame immense adversity. Everyone at Musica Viva is inspired daily by their example and committed to bringing you live music again as soon as it is safe to do so.

With many thanks for your support and every best wish."

CEO, Musica Viva Australia

AUSTRALIAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA STATEMENT RE: MUSIC TO HEAL, INTIMATE MENDELSSOHN & BACH AND BAROQUE BRILLIANCE

FRIDAY 3 APRIL, 2020

"As we write this we anticipate that you, like all of us, are at home in a state of some shock as we confront the immense challenge of containing the virus which has had such devastating health and economic impacts on communities around the globe.

Within this context, we write to confirm five more of our national tours, Music to Heal, Mahler’s Song of the Earth, The Four Seasons & Beyond, Intimate Mendelssohn & Bach and Baroque Brilliance are unable to go ahead. We feel strongly that this is the right course of action in order to prioritise the health and safety of our touring musicians and you, our audiences, and to follow government advice by proactively playing a role in curbing the destructive spread of COVID-19.

It is with very heavy hearts that we are cancelling these tours, especially in what was supposed to be a celebratory season commemorating Richard's 30th anniversary as Artistic Director. Instead, we find our very existence threatened as our primary revenue stream from ticket sales has in very recent weeks fallen off a cliff.

The COVID-19 crisis is crippling the arts sector, and we are acutely aware that you too are personally impacted. Many of you have already donated your Arvo Pärt & Shostakovich tickets back to the ACO - please accept our deepest gratitude in these difficult times. Despite the obvious challenges and isolation, the outpouring of love and support from you all has been inspiring and is keeping our musicians' and staff spirits high. We plan to return to the concert hall for our final tour of the year, Beethoven 250, where we will celebrate Richard’s milestone year and Beethoven’s 250th anniversary.

Until then, we remain determined to bring our music to you. This crisis is an opportunity to pull back the curtain and reveal a different side of the ACO. So, we are offering something that would be impossible amid our regular hectic touring schedule.

We hope you will consider contributing to our musicians working from their homes by donating your tickets back to the ACO, as we are in need of your help. If you’re not in a position to do so then we of course understand, and you have the option of a credit or a refund.

Either way, we’re looking forward to sharing our brave new digital world with you as we meet this unprecedented challenge together.

Warm wishes"

Richard Tognetti (ACO Artistic Director) & Richard Evans (ACO Managing Director)
