Introducing Mountain – an epic cinematic and musical collaboration between the ACO and BAFTA-nominated Sherpa director, Jennifer Peedom, narrated by two-time Academy Award® nominated actor Willem Dafoe.
Only three centuries ago, setting out to climb a mountain would have been considered close to lunacy. The idea scarcely existed that wild landscapes might hold any sort of attraction. Mountains were places of peril, not beauty. An upper world to be shunned, not sought out. How then have mountains now come to hold us spellbound, drawing us into their dominion, often at the cost of our lives?
Shot by the world’s leading high altitude cinematographers, with narration written by celebrated British writer, Robert Macfarlane, this film explores the nature of our modern fascination with mountains. At these events the ACO will perform live with the film.
Throughout production, Richard Tognetti worked with Jennifer Peedom to assemble a stunning soundscape to mirror the serenity, magnitude and terror of the landscapes filmed, with works by Chopin, Grieg, Vivaldi, Corelli, Beethoven and new works by Richard himself.
Mountain is a unique musical journey through vistas that few have visited and none have seen in quite this way.
